Warren Haynes, Gov’t Mule, Dark Side Of The Mule Deliver 6-Hour Red Rocks Super Show
This Friday, September 14th, Warren Haynes made his huge return to the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre with a three-set, six-plus-hour super show. Each set featured a version of Warren Haynes mastery, opening up with a rare solo acoustic set, followed by a set from Gov’t Mule, and closing with their highly acclaimed “Dark Side of the Mule” tribute to Pink Floyd set.
Opening the night with a solo performance, Warren Haynes went acoustic for a set that included covers of Jesse Colin Young‘s “Before You Came”, the Allman Brothers Band‘s “Old Before My Time” and “Soulshine”, as well as Phil Lesh & Friends‘ “The Real Thing”–the latter three of which Haynes recorded with the bands on the original studio versions. During the rare acoustic set, Haynes wove in three tracks from 2015’s Ashes & Dust, “Blue Maiden’s Tale,” “Spot Of Time” and “Hallelujah Boulevard”, ultimately showcasing his diverse range of musical contributions.
Then, Gov’t Mule took the stage and dazzled the crowd with a career-spanning selection of original tunes, including a jam-heavy “Bad Little Doggie” > “Broke Down On The Brazos” > “Tributary Jam” segue, fan-favorites “Banks of the Deep End” and “Dreams & Songs”, and closing with Blind Willie Johnson‘s “Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground”. By this point of the night, Haynes’ musical accomplishments were on full display–providing fans with a history of the songwriter’s original music, collaborations, and inspirations.
Finally, the night culminated with the only “Dark Side of The Mule” performance west of the Mississippi. The audio and visual spectacular saw Gov’t Mule performing some of Pink Floyd‘s most iconic and beloved songs with Torbjörn “T-Bone” Andersson, Ron Holloway, Machan Taylor, Mini Carlsson, and Sophia Ramos—a perfect pairing for the stunning setting of Red Rocks.
